Aluminium Doors Maitland – Built to Handle the Hunter Valley

A bloke in East Maitland called us up last autumn after his back door jammed shut for the third time that month. Old timber french doors that had swollen so bad he was having to shoulder-barge them open every morning just to let the dog out. He’d been putting up with it for over a year. When I asked him why he waited so long, he said “Mate, I kept thinking I could sand them back and they’d be right.” They weren’t right. They were cooked.

We pulled those timber doors out and put in a set of aluminium hinged doors. Two weeks later he sent me a text saying his wife reckoned it was the best money they’d spent on the house. The doors just open and close like there supposed to. No fighting with them. No swearing at them. Just doors doing there job.

Why Aluminium Doors Make Sense in Maitland

Maitland gets a pretty raw deal weather-wise. You’ve got those scorching summer days where it hits 40 degrees easy, then winter mornings out near Bolwarra where there’s frost on the grass. Chuck in the storms that roll through from the ranges and the occasional Hunter River flood and your building materials cop a real beating.

Timber doors swell in the humidity, shrink when it dries out, and eventually start rotting from the bottom up. We see it all the time in the older homes around Lorn and through central Maitland. Aluminium doesn’t do any of that. It stays the same shape whether its 42 degrees or 2 degrees. It doesn’t rot, it doesn’t warp, and you never have to paint it.

Sliding Doors

A lot of the newer homes going up around Thornton and Chisholm are going with three-panel sliders because you get a massive opening without the cost of a full bi-fold. For something more specialised, we also do corner sliding doors and cavity sliding doors. The cavity sliders tuck right into the wall when there open, so you get a completely clean opening with no door panel in the way. Really popular in open plan renovations.

Bi-Fold Doors

Bi-fold doors are what you go with when you want to completely open up a wall between inside and outside. They fold back and stack to one side, giving you an uninterupted opening. Perfect for entertaining or just making a room feel twice as big.

I’ll be honest – bi-folds cost more then sliding doors and they need a bit more care with keeping the tracks clean. But when there right for the space, nothing else comes close. We did a bi-fold install for a family in Rutherford last year that opened there whole kitchen up onto the alfresco area. They said it changed how they use the house completely – the kids just flow between inside and outside now.

We also supply corner bi-fold doors where two runs of panels meet at a corner. These are a real statement piece if you’ve got the right layout for it.

Hinged and Pivot Doors

Hinged doors including french door styles are a great fit for the older homes that Maitland has plenty of. The heritage areas through Lorn and around the main street have loads of character homes where a traditional hinged door looks right at home. Our aluminium versions give you that classic look without any of the timber maintenance headaches.

They swing open on hinges, either inward or outward depending on what works for your space, and provide a nice wide opening. A lot of people renovating older places in Maitland want something that respects the character of the house without going back to timber that’s going to cause the same problems all over again.

Tinted or low-E glass can cut that heat transfer down massively. One customer in Aberglasslyn told us there air conditioning bill dropped noticably after they swapped out there old single-glazed slider for a new aluminium door with low-E glass.

Double glazing is becoming more popular around the Maitland area too, especially for noise. If your near the New England Highway through Rutherford or close to the rail line, double glazed doors make a real diffrence to how quiet things are inside.

All our aluminium doors are powder coated, which means the colour is baked on at high temperature. It wont peel, chip, or fade the way paint does. The trend has definately shifted towards darker frames in the last couple of years. It started in the new estates like Thornton and Gillieston Heights and now the older suburbs are following.
