Aluminium bi-fold doors are a set of door panels that fold and stack neatly to one side, opening up a whole wall in one smooth movement. They turn the edge of your living room into a wide, clear opening onto the patio, deck, or garden. Aura designs and builds them right here in Mayfield West, so they are made to handle the Newcastle and Hunter Valley climate.
A bi-fold door is made of several panels joined together with hinges. When you open it, the panels concertina, folding flat against each other and sliding to one side along a track. That lets you open the full width of the doorway, not just half of it like a standard sliding door. Push every panel back to bring the outside in, or open a single panel for everyday coming and going.
Our home bi-fold doors are built to suit most living spaces. For bigger projects, our commercial bi-fold doors reach up to 3.1 metres high and 8 metres wide. Stainless steel hinges keep the larger panels swinging smoothly, and heavy duty 50mm panels give them the strength to span those wide openings. The high-performance rollers are adjustable, so the doors keep gliding easily for years.
They are one of the best choices for it. Homes across Newcastle, Merewether, and the Lake Macquarie suburbs use bi-fold doors to join the kitchen or living room to an alfresco area. When the doors are folded right back, there is nothing between you and the deck, which is perfect for entertaining on a warm afternoon. When the weather turns, the panels close up tight with quality seals to keep the wind and rain out.
Yes. A single access panel lets you come and go while the rest of the doors stay locked. A day latch secures the door from the inside without a key, which is handy when you are home. For extra peace of mind, you can add our multi-point compression lock system, which locks the door at several points along the frame at once.
They can. Add double glazing and you cut down the heat coming in during summer and hold the warmth in over winter, which can help lower your power bills. Our Sound Smart™ system is also available if you want to soften the noise from a busy street. You can learn more in our guide to double glazing in Newcastle. For homes in bushfire zones, bi-fold doors can be certified up to BAL 40, and they can be upgraded to suit cyclonic regions too.
Not sure a bi-fold is right for your space? Compare them with our aluminium sliding doors for a slimmer look, or wrap two walls of glass around a corner with our corner bi-fold doors. Every door is made to order at our Mayfield West factory and fitted by our own team across the Hunter. Book a free consultation and we will help you choose the right door for your home.

Bi-fold doors fold and stack to one side, so you can open the whole doorway. Sliding doors glide behind each other, so part of the opening always stays covered by glass. Bi-folds give you a wider clear opening, while sliding doors give you a slimmer, simpler look.
Aura bi-fold doors come in a range of configurations to suit your opening. A smaller space might use three panels, while a wide entertaining area can use six or more. We help you choose the layout when we measure your home.
They can fold inward or outward, and stack to the left, to the right, or split to both sides. We set this up to suit your room and the way you use the space.
Yes, when you choose the low profile sill. It sits almost flush with the floor, so there is no big step to cross. That makes it easy for wheelchairs, prams, and trolleys.
