What is double glazing?
A double glazed window or door has two panes of glass instead of one, separated by a sealed gap. In Aura’s double glazed units that gap is filled with argon, an inert gas that insulates far better than plain air, and the two panes are held apart by a warm edge spacer and locked in with high-performance seals. The whole unit is hermetically sealed, so the insulating layer stays put for the life of the window.
That sealed pocket of gas is the secret. It slows the flow of heat through the window, which keeps warm air inside during winter and hot air out during summer. The result is a home that holds a comfortable temperature with less help from your heater and air conditioner.
Why double glazing makes sense in Newcastle and the Hunter

Understanding U-value: the number that matters
When you compare energy-efficient windows, the key figure is the U-value. It measures how easily heat passes through the product. The lower the U-value, the better the window resists heat flow and the more it insulates. As a rough guide from our own double glazed range:
