A couple in Terrigal got in touch with us about a year ago because there back sliding door had basically stopped working. Old timber frame that had swollen from the coastal moisture and dropped off the bottom track. They’d been using the side door and walking around the outside of the house to get to the deck for months. The wife told me she’d stopped inviting people over because she was embarrassed about the state of it.
We measured up and fitted a new aluminium sliding door – three panels, matt black frames, wide opening straight onto the back deck with a view of the ocean in the distance. She sent us a photo a few weeks later of a dinner party on the deck with the doors wide open. Said it was the first time they’d entertained at home in over a year. That’s the sort of result that makes you feel like you’ve actually helped someone.
Why Aluminium Doors Make Sense on the Central Coast
The Central Coast sits right on the ocean, so everything from Avoca Beach through to Toukley and all the way down to Woy Woy cops salt air on a regular basis. Even suburbs further back like Erina and Wyoming still get enough coastal moisture to cause problems with timber over time.
We see it all the time – timber doors that have swollen shut, paint peeling off after just a couple of years, frames that have rotted at the bottom from moisture sitting in the tracks. It’s not because the doors were cheap or badly made. It’s just what happens when timber lives near the coast for long enough.
Aluminium doesn’t have those issues. It doesn’t absorb moisture, it doesn’t swell or shrink with temperature changes, and with powder coating it handles the salt air without corroding. We’ve supplied doors to homes along the coastal strip from Avoca to The Entrance that are still working perfectly years later. No maintenance drama, just doors that open and close the way there supposed to.
Sliding Doors
Sliding doors are the most popular aluminium door we supply to Central Coast homes. Nearly every house in the area has some kind of outdoor living space – a deck, a patio, an alfresco area. Sliding doors connect those spaces to your living area without taking up any swing room inside.
We supply them in two-panel, three-panel, and four-panel setups. The three-panel slider is the most popular option right now because you get a big opening without the price of a full bi-fold. A lot of the renovations happening around Gosford and Erina are going with this configuration.
For more specialised setups, we also do corner sliding doors and cavity sliding doors. The cavity sliders tuck into the wall when there open, giving you a completely clean opening. Really popular in open plan renovations where people want that seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
Bi-Fold Doors
Bi-fold doors fold back and stack to one side, giving you an uninterupted opening between inside and outside. On the Central Coast where outdoor living is basically a way of life, bi-folds make total sense for the right space.
I’ll be straight with you though – bi-folds cost more then sliding doors and they need the tracks kept clean. Salt and sand build up in the tracks quicker near the coast, so a quick vacuum every few weeks keeps them running smoothly. But when the space is right, the result is stunning.
We did a set for a family in Avoca Beach that opened there whole living area onto a north-facing deck. They said it was the single best decision of there entire renovation. The house went from feeling dark and closed off to completely open and connected to the outdoors.
We also supply corner bi-fold doors where two runs of panels meet at a corner. For a coastal block with views from two directions, this is how you make the absolute most of it.
Hinged and Pivot Doors
Hinged doors including french door styles suit homes with a more traditional character. There’s plenty of older homes scattered around Woy Woy, Umina Beach, and the southern end of the Coast where a classic hinged door fits the style of the house. Our aluminium versions give you that traditional look without any of the timber maintenance headaches.
They swing open on hinges – inward or outward, your choice – and provide a nice wide opening. People renovating older Central Coast homes often want something that respects the original character without going back to timber that’s going to cause the same problems all over again.
For something more contemporary, our pivot doors are worth looking at. They rotate on a central or offset pivot point, which lets you go much bigger with the door size. We’re seeing more of these in the modern builds going up around Killcare and the Bouddi Peninsula.
Front Entry Doors
Your front door cops a beating on the Central Coast. Between the salt, the sun, and the humidity, a timber front door can look rough within a few years. Our aluminium entrance doors come in a range of styles and wont warp, fade, or stick regardless of the conditions.
Had a customer in Bateau Bay who replaced there old front door and said the real estate agent told them it added more to the street appeal then the new garden they’d just put in. It’s a quick upgrade that punches well above its weight.
Glass Options for Coastal Homes
The glass in your doors makes a big difference on the Central Coast. We supply aluminium doors with clear, tinted, low-E, obscure, and double glazed glass options.
The Coast gets plenty of sun, especially on north and west-facing walls. If you’ve got a sliding door facing the afternoon sun in Erina or Kariong, tinted or low-E glass cuts the heat transfer down massively. One customer in Toukley told us there electricity bill dropped noticably the first summer after upgrading from old single-glazed doors to aluminium sliders with low-E glass.
Double glazing is getting more popular on the Central Coast too. Besides keeping the heat out in summer and the warmth in during winter, it also helps with noise. Handy if your near the Pacific Highway or close to the train line through Gosford and Woy Woy.
For bathrooms, laundries, and side entries, obscure glass gives you privacy without blocking the light. We supply a few different levels from a light frost through to fully opaque.
Colour and Finish Options
All our aluminium doors are powder coated. The colour gets baked on at high temperature so it wont peel, chip, or fade like paint. This matters a lot on the Central Coast where the combination of salt air and UV is hard on any exterior finish.
The most popular colours we’re supplying to Central Coast homes at the moment are matt black, monument, and surfmist – but we can match any colour from the Colorbond range. Darker frames are the big trend right now, giving homes that sharp modern coastal look that works on everything from a 1970s brick home to a brand new build.

Custom Sizes Are No Problem
If your replacing doors in an older Central Coast home, chances are the openings won’t be standard sizes. That’s completely normal – we manufacture custom sizes as part of our everyday process. No massive upcharge for going outside standard dimensions, which catches alot of people by surprise after getting quotes from bigger chain suppliers.
Every house is different. Whether its a fibro cottage in Woy Woy or a newer build up in Lisarow, we measure, manufacture, and it fits. A builder we work with on the Coast told us the custom sizing saves him hours on each job compared to trying to make stock sizes work.
A Few Things to Think About
If your property is in a coastal protection zone or has any specific planning restrictions, its worth checking with Central Coast Council before you start making changes. Some waterfront and beachfront properties have particular requirements.
Security hardware is worth thinking about too, especially for holiday homes that sit empty for stretches. All our doors come with standard locks, but we supply upgraded options including multi-point locking systems and keyed restrictor stays. On ground floor doors and any door thats not highly visible from the street, the upgrade is a smart call.
If you also need aluminium windows done at the same time, doing everything together makes the most sense. You get matching colours across all frames and the install is more efficient when everything arrives in one delivery.
