Aluminium Doors Lake Macquarie

A couple in Warners Bay got in touch with us last summer because there old timber sliding door had finally given up. The bottom rail had rotted out so bad you could push your finger through it, and the whole thing had dropped off the track. They’d been propping it shut with a piece of timber for about six months. The husband told me he was embarrassed to have mates over because the back of the house looked like it was falling apart.

We pulled the old door out and fitted a new aluminium sliding door – three panels, matt black frames, nice and wide. He rang me a couple of weeks later and said his wife had actually started using the back deck again for the first time in over a year. Said it felt like a different house. That’s the bit of this job I like most.

Why Aluminium Doors Work So Well Around Lake Macquarie

Lake Macquarie is a funny one because you’ve got the lake itself in the middle, the coast on the eastern side, and the bush pressing in from the west. That means a lot of homes cop moisture from multiple directions. The breeze off the lake carries moisture, the coastal wind brings salt, and in summer the whole area bakes.

Timber doors don’t handle that well. We see it constantly in the older homes around Belmont, Toronto, and Swansea – timber that’s swollen, split, or rotted at the base. Aluminium doesn’t have those problems. It doesn’t absorb moisture, it doesn’t swell or shrink with temperature changes, and with powder coating it handles the salt air without corroding. Sliding Doors

Sliding doors are the most common aluminium door we supply around Lake Macquarie. And it makes sense – pretty much every house here has some kind of outdoor living area, whether its a deck looking over the lake, a patio out the back, or a covered alfresco. Sliding doors connect those spaces to your living area without taking up any swing space.

We supply them in two-panel, three-panel, and four-panel configurations. The three-panel setup is really popular right now because you get a huge opening without the cost of a full bi-fold. A lot of the renovations happening around Charlestown and Cardiff are going with this option.

For more specialised setups, we also do corner sliding doors and cavity sliding doors. The cavity sliders tuck into the wall when there open so you get a completely clean opening. Really popular in the newer builds going up around Cameron Park and the western side of the lake.

Bi-Fold Doors

If you want to completely open up a wall between inside and outside, bi-fold doors are the way to go. They fold back and stack to one side, giving you an uninterupted opening that makes indoor and outdoor feel like one space. For a lakeside house, there’s nothing better.

I’ll be straight with you – bi-folds cost more then sliding doors and they need the tracks kept clean to fold properly. But when the space is right for them, the result is amazing. We did a set for a family in Speers Point that opened there whole living area onto a north-facing deck overlooking the lake. They told us it completely changed how they use there house.

We also supply corner bi-fold doors where two runs of panels meet at a corner. If you’ve got a waterfront block with views from two sides, this is how you make the most of it.

Hinged and Pivot Doors

Hinged doors including french door configurations are a solid choice for homes that suit a more traditional look. There’s plenty of older character homes around Toronto, Morisset, and the western shore suburbs where a hinged aluminium door fits the style perfectly without the timber maintenance issues.

They swing open on hinges – inward or outward depending on your preference – and give you a nice wide opening. A lot of people renovating around Lake Macquarie want to keep the feel of the original house while upgrading to something that’s going to last. Aluminium hinged doors let you do that.

For a more modern look, our pivot doors are worth considering. They rotate on a central or offset point instead of side hinges, which means you can go much bigger with the door. We’re seeing these pop up in some of the contemporary builds around Caves Beach and Redhead.

Front Entry Doors

Your front door is the first thing anyone sees when they come to your house. A tired, dated front door can make the whole place look worse then it is.
